Sardarshahr Historical Background
A tiny village named Rajiawas, in the erstwhile state of Bikaner was picked up by his highness Sir Ratan Singh to be developed into a city in the name of his loving son Sardar Singh in 1838. The area was perhaps ruled by the Mohils of that time. A statue of Indrapal Mohil on the town side is a testimony to the fact. The area in the thick of the Thar desert is characterized by huge amounts of sand dunes, blow hot and cold temperatures, and a natural habitat for cattle feed.
The important milestones in the development of the city have been:
- 1. The facility of Rail service in 1916.
- 2. Establishment of Ganga Golden Jubilee high school in 1937.
- 3. The roadways bus depot in 1974.
- 4. Beginning of SBBJ banking activities in 1938.
- 5. Postal services 1928.
- 6. Construction of Asia’s second-biggest Clock tower, where transportation is active in all four directions – 1972.
- 7. Foundation of girls collage (Smt. Kamla Devi Gauridutt Mittal Mahila (P.G.) Mahavidyalaya) in 1981.
- 8. Foundation of Sh. S.M.G.D. Mittal Eye Dental Hospital in 1981.
- 9. The public library in 1990.
- 10. Ichchhapuran Balaji Temple 2005.
- 11. Mega highway in 2008.
- 12. Mahapragya Samadhi Sthal, Shanti Peeth.

Since its establishment, the town of Sardarsahar has been steadily developing into a prosperous city, though its progress was punctured by the disastrous famine of 1899. Presently it is a Tehsil headquarters covering 210 villages and having a population of more than one lakh.
The salient features of the city and the area:
- The city is famous for its architectural grandeur. Its white marble tower is a unique feat of architecture. Its height is 60 feet and the upper minaret set is 30 feet high. angloswiss watches from Switzerland are embedded on its four sides. The town is also famous for its architecture and wall painting.
- The feedback area for the college education is a unique mix of the poor peasantry from wast countryside and a pool of rich trading communities of Oshwals and Aggrawals.
- The area is rich in livestock and hence an important mandi of ghee, milk, and milk product.
- Political awareness and maturity of the area have their own reckoning. National level leaders Shri Daulat Ram Saharan and Chandanmal Baid are worthy sons of the soil.
- The presence of its trading communities known as Mawaries in the metro cities of Kolkata, Banglore, Chennai, Delhi & Hyderabad has earned a reputation for the state of Rajasthan. The city is a holy seat for almost all the leading religions. The Acharyas of Sanatan Dharma and that of Jain dharma often organize their annual all-India congregations in this town.
- It is the only town in the entire region to have a private university providing all sorts of education up to the highest level.
Moreover and most important is the fact that the place is beautiful and its people are lively-truly an oasis place in the heart of Thar Desert.
Famous Temple
Sardarshahar is famous for Ichchhapuran Balaji Temple at Ratangarh road is growing into a religious and tourist center due to its architecture and design. Devotees from all over the country and abroad come and offer their wish before the great Hanumana in this temple and have ‘Darshan’ of Shree Balaji throughout the year. Sardarshahar is known for its fine Rajasthani musicians and bands.
Famous Silver Industries
The town is also known for its artistic talent in silver jewelry and other articles of silver like utensils and gift items. The town receives bulk orders for the purchase of silver items from Mumbai, Jaipur, and Kolkata.
